Life Safety Systems Specialist – Full Time – Facilities Department – Position Closes: 7/1

Tracking Code 20200549 Job Description JOB SUMMARY: Maintain Life Safety and Maintenance records required by the Joint Commission and CMS.

Also assist Facilities Engineer with various projects and tasks as assigned.

The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification.

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES This position will be responsible for managing the continuous compliance process as it pertains to life safety (LS), Building Utilities, maintenance, and non-clinical Environment of Care Standards.

Ensure all staff are informed and trained on changes to regulatory requirements.

Maintain written management plans and perform continuous review of plans to ensure continued effectiveness.

Oversee Federal, State, local, and insurance inspections, assist with hospital licensure renewal, and work to ensure the necessary updates to regulatory documentation to accommodate re-configuration of space or new equipment within the accredited campus.

Maintain all documentation for the Joint Commission, CMS and the State of Alaska regulatory evaluation.

Oversee life safety code compliance for all project work throughout the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) accredited space.

Participate in frequent environmental rounds to inspect the accredited space and identify compliance deficiencies.

Work closely with Facilities leadership and the local agencies to maintain all Life Safety requirements.

Track and maintain EPA, and OHSA records as required.

Assist Facilities leadership with new and current hospital policies.

Participate in rounding and membership on the Safety Committee.

Attend committee meetings and complete both the planning and evaluations for the Utility and Life Safety.

Coordinates with ANTHC finance department to insure timely and accurate financial reporting.

Develop, monitor, and manage the above ceiling access permit, interim life safety measure, and interim utility system measure processes in order to mitigate any life safety issues.

Maintain and update Fire Safety and Utility Systems Management Plans.

Maintain and update departmental and Environment of Care and Life Safety related Accredited Campus compliance policies and procedures.

Maintain accurate preventative maintenance instructions including equipment shut down, lock out tag out and start up procedures within the computerized maintenance system.

Oversee safety training for Facilities staff including confined space entry, lockout tag-out procedures, personal protective equipment and electrical safety.

Document deficiencies, create corrective maintenance work orders and track through completion.

Communicate effectively with hospital leaders.

Deliver facility expectations during orientation to contractors working in all buildings.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s). Knowledge of national and local building codes and safety standards.

Knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation standards Knowledge of process improvement methods and measures Knowledge of State, Federal, and tribal health care programs.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting deadlines.

Skill in collecting data, analyzing and organizing.

Skill in analyzing financial issues and making logical recommendations based on findings.

Skill in using independent judgment for effective decision making Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.

Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of applications.

Required Experience MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, safety, environmental health, or related healthcare field.

Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Non-supervisory – Two (2) years professional work experience in hospital utility systems and life safety code requirements.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION N/A PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION N/A PREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION CAD experience preferred.

Technical writing experience preferred.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION N/A ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS  Depending on the needs of the organization, some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas.

WORKING CONDITIONS The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:  Must be able to lift approximately 20 pounds.

 ANMC is not a latex free facility; an employee should expect to work in an environment where latex may be present.

 Travels occasionally within Alaska in small fixed wing aircraft; travels outside Alaska.

 May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.

 May be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations.
